The FF Plus facilitated an “adopt and secure” initiative between the Gauteng province and the Carnival Centre in Brakpan and as a result, the Centre has adopted the traffic light in Heidelberg Road.
This traffic light has been out of order since November which causes serious traffic jams, particularly for shoppers on their way to the shopping centre.
The Centre’s management recently reached out to the FF Plus and offered to help repair the traffic light. The traffic light in question is, however, the provincial government’s responsibility and the matter was escalated to the Provincial Department of Roads.
Several meetings between the interested parties followed and it was agreed that the Centre would soon repair and secure the traffic light.
From now on, the FF Plus will meet with the Department and the Ekurhuleni Metro on a monthly basis to identify other provincial traffic lights that companies can “adopt”.
Although it is a disgrace that private companies have to be called upon to repair and maintain the Gauteng province’s transport infrastructure, it remains vital to keep our roads safe.
The FF Plus will do everything in its power to further residents’ interests and keep the pressure on government to do its part.
