Yet another brutal farm murder confirms the reality of this atrocity and President Ramaphosa has to acknowledge it

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) herewith extends its deepest condolences to the friends and family of Mrs Hannetjie van Zyl (55), who tragically became the latest victim of a brutal farm murder last night (Monday, 5 October).

Mrs Van Zyl was struck over the head with so much force at her farm gate on the Doornpan road near Ottosdal in North West that she succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital.

This incident once again confirms the gruesome reality of farm attacks in South Africa – a reality that certain media outlets, opinion leaders and government often deny or dismiss as “ordinary crime”.

I, therefore, urge President Cyril Ramaphosa to acknowledge and condemn the reality of farm murders, to express his sympathy with Mrs Van Zyl’s next of kin, and to unequivocally condemn the song “Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer” by personally speaking out against it.

Those who are raising awareness of farm murders are increasingly labelled unpatriotic or “far-right” for informing the international community of it. In the Freedom Front Plus’s view, denial merely perpetuates the violence.

As long as government and President Ramaphosa refuse to acknowledge the extent of farm attacks and declare it a priority crime, they fail to fulfil their primary constitutional duty to protect all the people of South Africa.

When a number of women were recently killed on the East Rand, President Ramaphosa immediately condemned it, demanding that it should be prioritised. That is precisely how any serious crime problem ought to be handled. Why do the agricultural community and the killing of farmers not deserve the same urgency and official condemnation?

According to AfriForum, there were a total of 184 farm attacks and 29 farm murders in 2025. These figures would undoubtedly have been much higher if farmers and rural communities had not organised their own security structures – a responsibility that should rest squarely on government’s shoulders.

Farm attacks are an undeniable reality; as are the violent consequences of hate speech and incitement such as “Kill the Boer”, which the President also refuses to condemn.

It is time for all South Africans who respect justice and human rights to stand together against this atrocity, and to see those who are twisting the truth for who and what they really are.

The Freedom Front Plus will not keep quiet about this. The Freedom Front Plus will keep exposing injustices in South Africa to the world and will not be deterred by those who try to silence the party by labelling it as right-wing.
