The water crisis plaguing the Makhado and Musina Local Municipalities must not be tolerated and decisive action must be taken to resolve it.
That is why the FF Plus today lodged a criminal complaint against the Executive Mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality, Mr Nenguda Dowelani, and the acting Municipal Manager, Mr NC Tshikovha, with the police in Louis Trichardt.
The charge and request for investigation stem from alleged non-compliance with the directives of the Constitution, the National Water Act and the Water Services Act.
The District Municipality is under a legal obligation to supply potable water to its consumers, the residents of the Vhembe District Municipality.
The Municipal Manager is the Municipality's accountable officer and Mr Tshikovha currently fulfils that role, while the Executive Mayor, Mr Nenguda Dowelani, is appointed as the head of the executive management, which is supposed to fulfil an oversight role in this regard.
Residents of Louis Trichardt (Makhado) and Musina have frequently been affected by serious water shortages for a number of years now.
The FF Plus has also lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) against the District Municipality about the ongoing water crisis.
The investigation must be conducted as soon as possible to hold the responsible officials accountable and resolve the water crisis.
The residents of Louis Trichardt and Musina deserve better than the ANC.
