The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) commends the swift action of the police following a shooting incident today in the business district of Meyerton.
Armed individuals fired indiscriminately with AK-47 assault rifles at people at a taxi rank, injuring a school pupil.
Pupils and teachers from a nearby school had to be evacuated and brought to safety.
The police have since confirmed that three suspects have been arrested.
The quick response by the police and emergency services prevented further harm and loss of life.
The Freedom Front Plus has meanwhile engaged with the office of the Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi and the MEC for Transport, Kedibone Diale, to investigate the incident, which appears to be related to taxi violence.
It is unacceptable that innocent commuters and bystanders become victims of internal disputes within the taxi industry, and this issue must receive the necessary attention at the highest level.
