A fire that broke out late last night (19 May) at the Swartkop substation has left large parts of Valhalla in Centurion without electricity.
Emergency services from the Tshwane Metro and Gauteng Province worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control.
Due to the fire, several roads in Valhalla have been closed after power cables fell onto streets.
Motorists are advised to avoid the following areas:
* The circle near Wierdabrug
* Viking Street
* Old Johannesburg Road
* The intersection of Old Johannesburg and Wierda Roads
* The entrance to the Glen Lauriston residential area.
In addition to the fire at the substation, two other power outages occurred in Pretoria last night. A power cable in Doringkloof was cut, and a mini substation in Pretorius Avenue was vandalized.
The Freedom Front Plus has repeatedly requested the metro not only to maintain substations but also to ensure they are properly secured. These requests have fallen on deaf ears.
The party will keep residents updated on the progress of repairs.
