Commemoration of Church Street bombing particularly significant in 2025

Commemorating the Church Street bombing that claimed the lives of 19 innocent people and severely injured 217 others on 20 May 1983, 42 years ago, is particularly significant this year given South Africa’s current volatile political climate.

Terror and violence cannot solve any political problem. A cowardly act like the Church Street bombing, which targeted innocent people, is inexcusable.

However, South Africans have moved on and adapted to the post-1994 South Africa. Unfortunately, the ANC government possesses no political capital other than blame-shifting and racial division.

This political culture has also been passed on to parties such as the EFF and MK, which were born out of the ANC and violate all acceptable boundaries when it comes to sowing division and causing disruptions.

South Africa desperately needs a new dispensation and has to oust corrupt political leaders, who incite needless hate, aggression and division, at the polls.

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) will continue to strive for a better future where all cultural communities’ rights are recognised and protected, and the free market and economy are bolstered.
