VF Plus lodges complaint against Mogale City with HRC

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) has lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) against the Mogale City Local Municipality for failing to address sewage spilling into a stormwater drain.

Since November last year, sewage has been flowing from a manhole on the corner of Naudé and Schoeman Street in Krugersdorp West into a concrete stormwater trench running between the residential areas of Quellerie Park and Krugersdorp West.

Several homes are situated along this trench.

Mogale City’s Sanitation Department has made several unsuccessful attempts to resolve the issue.

The Freedom Front Plus visits the area twice a week to check for progress, but to date, there has been none. The Department has also failed to provide a satisfactory answer regarding when and how the issue will be resolved.

In the meantime, residents have inundated the party with complaints about the severe stench preventing them from opening their doors or windows.

Additionally, some people have to walk through the stormwater trench to reach their respective neighbourhoods, which poses a serious health risk.

Mogale City is legally obligated to implement reasonable measures to prevent sewage pollution, and provide residents with a safe environment in which to live and work.

The Freedom Front Plus will continue to conduct oversight visits to the area and will keep pressuring the Municipality to resolve the problem.
