The FF Plus demands that the Free State Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana, intervenes in the ongoing water crisis in the Matjhabeng Local Municipality (Allanridge, Hennenman, Odendaalsrus, Ventersburg, Virginia, Welkom).
The residents of Bedelia, Jan Cilliers Park, Doorn, Sandania, Flamingo Park and Dagbreek in Welkom as well as Whites in Hennenman have been affected by water outages for weeks.
It is very strange, in the FF Plus’s view, that only certain areas in Matjhabeng frequently experience water outages, while other areas are seldomly affected.
It is general knowledge that the main cause of the water crisis plaguing residents is years of poor maintenance and repair under ANC rule.
Mayor David Khalipha’s promises to address the problems were clearly empty and there is no sign of improvement.
While the Municipality is implementing water shedding on a daily basis in an attempt to normalise water levels, it has quite the opposite effect.
Water pressure and levels simply cannot normalise because daily water outages prevent the systems from building up enough pressure and, consequently, taps are running dry.
Meanwhile, the countless water leakages in Welkom are also not repaired. As a result, clean water goes to waste and the system cannot fill up with enough water to work.
On the official request of the FF Plus, the Premier has to fulfil his constitutional duty to ensure that Matjhabeng residents’ right to have access to clean water is protected.
There will however be no restoring nor rebuilding in Matjhabeng as long as the ANC remains in power.
True change will only come once the Free State gets rid of the ANC and replaces it with a coalition government of which the FF Plus is part.
Critical infrastructure will only be repaired and rebuilt if expert officials are appointed.
