Tshwane Metro’s financial situation is gradually improving

Appointing experts in key positions in the Tshwane Metro has led to a significant improvement in the Metro’s finances and overall functioning.

This remark was made by the Auditor-General (AG) last Friday during a meeting with the Metro’s Public Accounts Committee.

The AG, however, also made it very clear that there is still room for improvement and that departments need more oversight by the section-79 committees, which include the Public Accounts Committee. This also applies to the Internal Audit Department.

The FF Plus concurs with the AG and will propose that more funds should be earmarked for infrastructure when the budget for the 2024/25 financial year is tabled.

The backlog in infrastructure repairs needs to be eradicated to keep the Metro from losing millions in revenue from water and electricity.

The FF Plus will continue to make proposals in committee meetings to improve the Tshwane Metro’s functioning.

The Public Accounts Committee should also carefully examine reports to ensure that the Metro’s progress is streamlined and that backlogs in departments are eradicated.
