The Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Ebrahim Patel, must account to Parliament for the extensive corruption, amounting to approximately R300 million, at the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) in his Department.
This follows after the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) submitted a report, indicating that 50 separate cases of corruption and misappropriation at the NLC are being investigated, to the parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Trade, Industry and Competition on Wednesday.
Those under investigation include, among others, the former chairperson of the board, Alfred Nevuthanda, former board member, William Huma, and the suspended chief operations officer, Philemon Letwaba.
The ongoing corruption at government departments poses a serious threat to sustainable economic development, an ethical value system and justice.
It is destabilising our South African society and undermining our democracy.
The FF Plus demands that The Hawks and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) take action against those implicated.
