The process currently followed for delivering departmental exam papers in Limpopo is a cause for concern.
The latest incident in the Mopani district where the Grade 11 departmental Geography exam had to be postponed to this coming Monday highlights a problem which deserves urgent attention.
High school learners in the Nkowankowa region were forced to wait around at school for an entire day as the exam was initially postponed from 11:00 to 14:00, only to be cancelled later. Most of these learners did not have money for food.
Exam papers were also delivered late elsewhere in the province, such as in the Bela-Bela Local Municipality where they were at least able to proceed with the exam at 14:00.
This means that the learners who were unable to write the Geography exam on Wednesday, 20 November, will have to write another exam on Monday, 25 November.
It is critically important that the Education Department, which is responsible for managing the delivery process, puts better control measures in place to ensure that exam papers are not delivered late.
The FF Plus is of the opinion that the matter should be urgently investigated.
