The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) will tomorrow support the motion of no confidence in the Speaker of the Ekurhuleni Metro Council, Nthabiseng Tshivhenga.
The party will support the motion due to the Speaker’s abuse of power, her unilateral conduct during council meetings and the fact that she fails to address her party’s misconduct.
Some of the standing rules that the Speaker enforces inconsistently, selectively or not at all, include:
• Rule 66 – Maintaining order;
• Rule 68 – Ignoring serious offences by a councillor or councillors; and
• Rule 69 – Ignoring gross misconduct.
The Freedom Front Plus has repeatedly formally requested the Speaker to familiarise herself with the Municipal Structures Act so she can effectively fulfil her duties and mandate as speaker.
The latest addition to her long list of offences are allegations relating to misconduct and fraud in her Office. These allegations will also be addressed during tomorrow’s council meeting.
The Freedom Front Plus calls on the ANC/EFF coalition and opposition parties to take a stand against the Speaker’s incompetence and alleged fraud.
Ekurhuleni should not be saddled with an incompetent speaker who fails to fulfil her obligations towards residents and councillors.
