The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) today announced its mayoral candidates for Gauteng’s three metro councils, six local municipalities and two district municipalities – a formidable team ready to shoulder the responsibility and make local government work again.
Gauteng residents have had enough of crumbling infrastructure, water and power outages, sewage spills, potholes, poor financial management and political instability.
Municipalities should be economic engines facilitating investment, development and job creation. Too often, though, they have hampered growth. So, restoring Gauteng’s economy starts with restoring local government.
These candidates bring a healthy mix of experience, local knowledge, leadership and an unshakeable commitment to accountable government to the table. They understand that being elected mayor is not about having a title, but shouldering the responsibility for delivering tangible results.
What they have to offer to Gauteng’s political landscape is stability, reliability and principled cooperation.
Where a single party is unable to govern alone, forming stable coalitions is essential. The Freedom Front Plus has already proven itself to be a disciplined and constructive coalition partner that honours agreements and prioritises service delivery above political games.
The approach is simple: municipalities have to go back to the basics, namely, their core functions. There should be water supply, the lights should stay on, sewerage systems should work, roads should be maintained and refuse should be removed.
Corruption and wasteful expenditure must make way for expertise, financial discipline and accountability. Where capacity is lacking, partnerships with the private sector and communities should be employed to restore infrastructure and service delivery.
The Freedom Front Plus is ready to play an even bigger and stronger role in Gauteng’s municipal governments after the elections on 4 November 2026.
This is about more than the candidates; it is about leadership, stability and a viable recovery plan.
It is our time to turn local government around.
