Mogale City (Krugersdorp, Magaliesburg, Muldersdrift) residents have to start shelling out like never before.
The adjustment budget, which was discussed and adopted during a special council meeting today, makes provision for, among other things, an additional R30 million for hiring chemical toilets for informal settlements in the Municipality.
This brings the total amount that Mogale City spent on hiring chemical toilets to R63 million for the current financial year.
The toilet debate inevitably turned into a mud-slinging contest.
The chemical toilets were supposed to be only a temporary solution while people in informal settlements await formal housing.
Unfortunately, illegal immigrants keep streaming into the Municipality under the ANC’s control and this puts even greater pressure on already overtaxed residents.
In the Freedom Front Plus’s view, this solution is like putting a Band-Aid on a gunshot; it will not be resolved any time soon.
And the loyal taxpayers of Mogale City will just have to keep shelling out.
