The FF Plus in Mpumalanga welcomes the fact that Level Three allows for the re-opening of South Africa's national parks and especially the re-opening of the world-renowned Kruger National Park. It is, however, irrational and incomprehensible that guided tours through the game reserve are still not allowed.
Regulations that prohibit tour guides and guide vehicles from operating in the Park must be reconsidered and revised at once. Government must reflect on what will be best for the region's economy.
Taking the large numbers of people who make use of buses, taxis and other forms of public transport into account, it is irrational not to allow tours in the Park and other game reserves on Level Three on condition that the necessary health and safety protocols are in place.
The FF Plus will engage with the province's MEC for Safety, Security and Tourism, Cynthia Tshabalala, in an attempt to pave the way for tour guides and similar business enterprises to resume their operations.
These people, like many others, are utterly desperate to start working again to earn an income, which will in turn also benefit the province's and the country's economy.
