The FF Plus is urgently demanding answers regarding the ongoing water crisis in the Mopani District Municipality which serves Phalaborwa and Gravelotte.
The party sent an official letter about the matter to the acting Municipal Manager of the District Municipality, Dr Kgoshi Lucas Pilusa, as well as the Mayor of the Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality, Ms Mirriam Malatjie.
This follows yet another municipal notice to residents to use water sparingly seeing as reservoir levels are exceptionally low.
Ba-Phalaborwa itself does not supply water to its residents. The Mopani District Municipality fulfils that function and is responsible for paying the water bill of the public entity, Lepelle North Water (LNW).
The party enquired in its letter, among other things, why LNW does not supply water to Phalaborwa and Gravelotte.
In March this year, LNW announced that the Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality would only receive 20% of its normal water supply because of outstanding debt.
This was not the first time that Phalaborwa residents were being punished with water cuts due to the Mopani District Municipality’s failure to pay its water bill.
Loyal taxpayers deserve better than the ANC’s mismanagement of the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality and Mopani District Municipality.
