The FF Plus condemns the false rumours circulating on social media alleging that the cholera outbreak earlier this year originated from the Rooiwal sewage treatment plant.
The party challenges everyone who spreads such rumours to support them with findings from accredited laboratories.
During the cholera outbreak in May this year in Hammanskraal, the Gauteng provincial and the national Water and Sanitation Departments took water samples daily which were sent to various laboratories for analysis. These laboratories are all approved and accredited.
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) were also continually involved in the monitoring process.
The laboratories confirmed that there was no cholera present in the water samples.
The Tshwane Metro’s Department of Health also frequently tests samples of the Metro’s water sources to determine the quality thereof.
The FF Plus views the rumours as malicious and can assure residents that the water in their taps is safe for human consumption.
