The FF Plus herewith expresses its deepest condolences to the family of the five-year-old Ameer Abrahams who died yesterday (8 January) after been hit by a stray bullet in Manenberg in the Cape Metro on Monday.
The tragic incident is a reminder of the death trap of never-ending gang violence in which so many communities are caught up.
In South Africa, the mortality rate among youth under 17 years of age is climbing alarmingly. According to the latest police statistics, 314 persons in this age group were killed between April 2024 and June 2024.
The FF Plus is calling on law-enforcement agencies to bring an end to gang-related activities and to impose the maximum penalty on offenders responsible for taking the lives of innocent children.
Every citizen’s right to life is enshrined in section 11 of the Constitution, while the whole of section 28 is dedicated to explaining the rights of children in detail.
The FF Plus wants to commend the police who arrested three suspects as well as the staff of the Red Cross Children’s Hospital who did their best to try and save little Ameer’s life.
