EFF has no place at Middelburg school protest

It is unacceptable for a political party, such as the EFF, to become embroiled in disrupting education at schools instead of encouraging workers to find a peaceable solution to their grievances.

Today’s protest action at HTS Middelburg in the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality (Hendrina, Middelburg, Pullens Hope, Rietkuil) was reportedly sparked by labour issues between general workers and the school.

It has been dragging on sporadically since July of this year.

The main entrance in Samora Machel Street is being blocked by protesters, which hinders any entry to and exit from the school.

The EFF is not a party to the dispute, but a political party; it is also not the workers’ representative body as stipulated by labour legislation.

Innocent children are being denied their right to undisrupted education so that the EFF can score cheap political points.

The FF Plus will engage with the MEC of Education, Mr Bonakele Majuba, to try and settle the dispute or obtain an interdict against the strikers.
