The ANC and EFF's disruption of the Tshwane Metro Council's meeting on Thursday and Friday grossly undermines democracy and is typical of sinking political parties that no longer have any political capital.
Likewise, the ANC and EFF recently also disrupted a meeting of the Johannesburg Metro Council and in both cases, councillors were assaulted and injured.
The FF Plus will put pressure on the Gauteng Premier, David Makhura, and the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Lebogang Maile, to call the ANC members to order.
In 2020, the High Court in Pretoria set aside Maile's unlawful decision to place the Tshwane Metro Council under administration.
Through these disruptions, the ANC is attempting to prevent the Council from electing and appointing chairpersons for the various committees within the prescribed 90 days after the 2021 election results were released so as to have the Council placed under administration again.
The Speaker of the Tshwane Metro Council must take decisive action against the members who are disrupting meetings so that the required processes can be finalised in time.
The ANC has already proven that it cannot govern, so in 2024 it must be replaced by multiparty coalitions on provincial as well as national level.
