After the media release issued earlier this week in which the FF Plus strongly criticised Discovery's plan to exclude white people from their shares scheme, the senior management of the company approached the FF Plus so that a workable alternative can be found.
The talks continued today and Discovery has now undertaken to address the sharp increase in the premium of the Discovery Health Medical Scheme (DHMS) Keycare Plus Plan as well.
According to media reports, many members of the scheme, including the elderly and pensioners, are displeased with the premium increase of nearly 47% which will take effect next year.
This excessive increase is unacceptably high seeing as a great percentage of the medical scheme's members are pensioners who will simply not be able to afford it. That coupled with the public resistance to Discovery's plan to exclude white people from their new bank's shares scheme could deliver a severe blow to the company.
The FF Plus is satisfied with the fact that Discovery has approached the talks about the matter with earnestness and good intentions and the party will, thus, be happy to cooperate with the company to find a solution that will benefit all its clients.
The FF Plus's view is that in essence, Discovery's plan to establish a new bank is a good idea seeing as it will encourage competition in the banking industry. The party would, however, like to remind Discovery not to forget who its very first clients were and who helped the company to become a financial giant.
Today, Discovery has clients of all races and backgrounds. And all these people are important and the FF Plus will do everything in its power to make a positive and meaningful contribution to the talks so as to arrive at a win-win solution for all the relevant parties.
