In reply to a question from the FF Plus in the Free State Legislature the Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana, disclosed the salaries of the most highly paid Heads of Department (HODs) in the Free State.
These millionaires jointly earn R26 912 961 per annum with each earning between R2,15 million and R2,42 million.
It is a disgrace that these HODs whose departments are failing to deliver basic services earn such exorbitant salaries.
These failures mean that voters do not have access to basic rights, such as water, sanitation and proper medical treatment.
It is unacceptable that Free State taxpayers have to shell out millions for these salaries when the departments do not serve the province and its people.
These HODs did not become millionaires overnight because of their years of hard work and experience, as in the case of successful businesspeople, but as a result of their exorbitant salaries that do not correspond with the poor level of service delivery.
Over the past decade, the Free State has had to return more than R1,3 billion to the national government due to the provincial government’s underspending. These funds could have been used to build at least 6 600 houses, 65 new public schools or 13 new state hospitals.
And in the meantime, four out of every ten people are unemployed, infrastructure such as roads and hospitals are not maintained, and housing targets are not met.
The only way to rescue the Free State is to oust the ANC by voting this coming Wednesday.
The people of the Free State need to replace the current ANC government with a competent and accountable coalition government with the FF Plus as governing partner.
Together, we can restore and rebuild the Free State.
