The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) welcomes the Pretoria High Court’s ruling that the signing of the National Health Insurance (NHI) Act into law may be taken under review.
President Cyril Ramaphosa signed it into law two weeks before last year’s general elections even though interest groups, including political parties such as the Freedom Front Plus, a broad range of civil organisations and medical experts warned that the NHI is unconstitutional.
The Freedom Front Plus had already made it very clear, during the Portfolio Committee on Health’s processing of the NHI Bill, that the party’s submitted legal opinion indicates the NHI Bill is unconstitutional.
The NHI is an unrealistic dream used by the ANC to create the illusion of world-class healthcare for everyone in South Africa. It is not viable. The country’s entire healthcare system will ultimately collapse.
President Ramaphosa’s signing of the NHI shortly before last year’s elections was just a ploy to make an impossible promise to millions of unemployed voters to secure their votes. It has now backfired on the ANC.
