Tshwane Metro has to step in and save Pretoria North from utter decay

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) sent a letter to the Tshwane Metro’s Mayor, Dr Nasiphi Moya, Deputy Mayor, Eugene Modise, and City Manager, Johann Mettler, urging them to step in and stop the decay of Pretoria North and Akasia.

Pretoria North, one of the Metro’s oldest areas since its establishment in 1878 when pioneer farmers settled along the Apies River, has little left of its once beautiful, thriving character.

Potholes, broken streetlights and crumbling, overgrown sidewalks have become the norm.

In Gerrit Maritz Street, the main road, streetlights are out of order, the street is neglected, and taxi drivers park wherever and whenever they please without facing consequences, causing great frustration for residents.

Municipal by-laws are rarely enforced. For instance, the stalls erected by hawkers on sidewalks force residents to walk in the road, which is extremely dangerous.

In the Klerksoord industrial area, businesses sometimes experience power outages up to three times a week.

It is the Tshwane Metro’s duty to address the area’s problems and ensure that the relevant departments make a concerted effort to resolve them.

The VF Plus will continue to pressure the Metro to reverse Pretoria North’s decay.
