The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) urges residents, particularly those in the Ekurhuleni Metro, to take preventive measures amid the measles outbreak in the Metro.
A total of 80 confirmed cases have already been reported.
The Gauteng Department of Health is currently monitoring the situation, but it is crucial that parents and guardians remain vigilant and take appropriate steps to protect their children’s health.
The Health Department launched a measles and rubella vaccination campaign in June, which will run until 12 September. The campaign targets children between the ages of 6 months and 15 years.
Vaccinations are being administered at schools, clinics, taxi ranks and even through door-to-door home visits. The vaccine is provided free of charge.
The following symptoms may indicate that a child has contracted measles:
• fever
• cough and runny nose
• red, watery eyes
• a rash that typically starts on the face and spreads across the body
Preventive measures and early medical attention could make a significant difference in managing the outbreak.
