The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) has formally lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) against the presenters of the Open Chats podcast, who, in a recent episode that rapidly proliferated across TikTok, made stereotypical and offensive remarks targeting the coloured community.
One presenter insinuated that “coloured siblings allegedly ‘chow’ one another” (a baseless stereotype regarding intra-community relationships), while another claimed that coloured individuals are “mentally unstable,” citing personal dating experiences. These remarks are deemed racist and demeaning, gravely undermining the dignity of the coloured community.
Such statements are not only profoundly offensive but also carry the potential to inflame racial tensions between black African and coloured communities, thereby causing discord and threatening the fragile social cohesion of South Africa.
The Freedom Front Plus acknowledges that these remarks do not reflect the sentiments of all black South Africans towards the coloured community.
Nevertheless, it is wholly unacceptable for individuals on a public platform to employ such hurtful stereotypes to erode the human dignity of the coloured community and foment hatred.
Given that this content reaches millions globally through digital channels, its immediate removal from all online platforms is imperative.
The Freedom Front Plus urges the HRC to take swift and decisive action to hold those responsible accountable and to prevent further harm to the coloured community’s dignity.
The party further demands that the Open Chats podcast promptly remove the offending episode and implement measures to redress the damage caused.
The Freedom Front Plus remains steadfastly committed to advancing equality, respect, and unity in South Africa and will not hesitate to act against any form of racism or discrimination.
