The FF Plus in Kempton Park is concerned about yet another avoidable power outage caused by poor maintenance on Eskom’s infrastructure.
Early in 2025 a tree fell on Eskom’s overhead conductors in Kempton Park and caused serious damage to a circuit breaker. It disrupted power supply and resulted in an oil leak causing pollution.
Legislation compels Eskom to maintain its infrastructure, including vegetation under high-voltage powerlines. If Eskom had fulfilled its duty, this incident could have been prevented.
In another incident last year, one of Eskom’s overhead lines fell across the road from Pretoria to the OR Tambo International Airport. Proactive steps could prevent such potentially dangerous situations.
The residents of Kempton Park and the wider Ekurhuleni area deserve reliable and safe electricity supply.
The FF Plus will continue to hold Eskom and Ekurhuleni accountable to prevent the repetition of similar incidents in the future.
The FF Plus is irrevocably committed to fighting for residents’ rights and demanding better service delivery.
