Freedom Front Plus dismisses Mogale City’s adjustment budget as reckless and unrealistic

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) cannot support the 2025/26 adjustment budget of the Mogale City Local Municipality (Krugersdorp, Magaliesburg, Muldersdrift). It does not reflect the principles of responsible financial management and serves as clear proof of the ANC’s maladministration.

With water losses amounting to R64 million and electricity losses to R108 million in just six months, Mogale City is on the brink of a financial ruin. Despite this, the ANC is trying to use the adjustment budget as a political smokescreen, rather than a statutory mechanism in terms of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) to align with actual financial realities.

The document contains unrealistic revenue projections, insufficient cost-saving measures and the reallocation of funds without clear justification regarding service delivery.

The Municipality projects a collection rate of 95%, while the current reality is only 93%. This discrepancy in the budget will lead to unrealistic spending and, ultimately, accruing debt with bulk suppliers.

An adjustment budget ought to reinforce financial discipline and promote transparency.

In Mogale City, however, it is being misused to conceal shortcomings in planning and the true extent of the crisis.

The Freedom Front Plus remains committed to the principles of accountable government, sustainable financial management, and safeguarding taxpayers against reckless and irresponsible decision-making.

Mogale City residents deserve better than ANC power games and budgets that look good on paper, but plunge the Municipality deeper into debt and chaos in practice.
