After constant pressure from the FF Plus, the Tshwane Metro appointed security guards at the Oos-Moot Retirement Village in Villieria.
The guards will keep a watchful eye on the premises day and night.
Three cars were recently stolen from this home for the elderly and an 80-year-old resident was robbed of jewellery on 17 November after the perpetrators pretended to be electricians who wanted to take a meter reading.
The party requested the Housing Company of Tshwane, responsible for managing eight such homes in the Tshwane Metro, to immediately appoint security guards at the other institutions as well.
The party would also like to see security cameras installed at all the premises to further ensure the elderly’s safety.
The residents in these homes are all dependent on SASSA grants and it is the Metro’s responsibility to ensure that adequate security measures are in place to keep them safe.
The FF Plus frequently visits the homes for the elderly in the Tshwane Metro to resolve complaints.
