Transnet pensioners gathered at Church Square against government

Hundreds of upset Transnet pensioners gathered at Church Square in Pretoria yesterday morning to find out more about their court case against Transnet and to hear what the government is doing to improve their financial predicament.

Adv Anton Alberts, FF Plus chairperson and parliamentary spokesperson for Transport, addressed the people and said that it is clear that neither Transnet nor the government has any sympathy for the pensioners, despite talk of a settlement.

He added that the Gupta connection with the plundering of the pensioners’ funds is disturbing.

“The new information that came to light in this regard and the fact that pensioners are not getting any younger make it a matter of urgency and it needs to be settled as soon as possible. Until Transnet heeds the demands of the elderly, more protest marches must be held to increase the pressure.

“They are only asking for what is rightfully theirs. Pensioners will no longer be faceless and powerless, they will organise themselves so that their voice can be heard loud and clear. This is only the beginning,” says adv Alberts.
