State must manage economic factors within its control wisely

There is no control over many factors influencing the country’s economy on an international level. That is why extreme caution and care should be taken when dealing with factors which can be managed, Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus parliamentary spokesperson on Trade and Industry says.

Adv. Alberts, today during the budget debate of the department of Trade and Industry, said given the uncertain international environment and the challenges in combatting unemployment and poverty, lessons of the past should be considered.

According to Adv. Alberts, the department deserves praise for the creation of a “one-stop business initiative” with the objective of making investments in the country easier, making general, business related state administration consumer friendly, and to ensure that licence and infrastructure approval is sped up.

He said that if this initiative is implemented, it will play a big role to increase investments, especially international investments. The country urgently needs investment, and this initiative comes at the right time.

“There is, however, a reservation, and that is to create policy certainty about property rights that would encourage growth and job opportunities which would then enable more people in a natural manner to own property,” Adv. Alberts says.
