The severe floods caused by recent heavy downpours in Kempton Park could have been prevented if the Ekurhuleni Metro had heeded the FF Plus’s warnings.
The FF Plus has been urging the Metro since the winter to clean drainage systems and storm water pipes, and to keep them clean, to prevent roads from flooding and eroding.
Ekurhuleni took no notice of these warnings and as a result, some roads are inaccessible, causing serious inconvenience for motorists and commuters.
This once again serves as proof that the ANC/EFF-controlled Metro Council does not take residents’ safety and the maintenance of infrastructure seriously.
The FF Plus will keep putting pressure on the Metro’s Department of Roads to prioritise the maintenance of drainage systems and storm water pipes.
The Metro’s indifferent attitude can no longer be tolerated.
Kempton Park residents deserve better.
