The many warnings from the FF Plus to the ANC/EFF-controlled Ekurhuleni Metro about dilapidated infrastructure came to nothing and as a result, Benoni residents started their year without power even though load shedding had been temporarily suspended.
The power problems of certain areas, such as Norton Home Estates and Brentwood Park, were recently resolved, but not for long, because power supply was once again interrupted. The affected areas were without power for three to five days.
Although heavy downpours have contributed to the recent power outages, the main cause is dilapidated infrastructure.
The blame for this can only be laid at the door of the ANC/EFF-controlled Metro which has made no effort to upgrade or replace infrastructure, despite the FF Plus’s warnings.
Meanwhile, the lives of residents who depend on oxygen machines, among other things, are put in danger, and perishable foods items must be thrown out time and again and replaced at the current sky-high prices.
The party will continue to put pressure on the Metro to prioritise power infrastructure and deliver the services to residents for which they pay good money.
