The Post Office in Senekal’s doors are open and all four staff members are faithfully manning their posts, but it is almost impossible to render any services because of a lack of electricity.
The National Post Office is currently under business rescue and its current account may, therefore, not be used to buy prepaid power from the Setsoto Local Municipality.
The lack of electricity is but one of the many problems experienced by the Post Office in Senekal. No funds may be used to cover day-to-day operating costs without approval from Business Rescue Practitioners.
Business Rescue Practitioners, which is situated in Pretoria, was appointed to administrate the Post Office in an attempt to settle its debt amounting to R9 billion.
It will not be possible to help those Senekal residents who depend on SASSA pensions or grants when payments are scheduled to be made from next week Thursday.
Last month there were already problems with Postbank’s SASSA payouts and now beneficiaries are being let down again.
The replies to enquiries made to the Office of the Minister of Communication seem to indicate that the Department itself is still awaiting answers.
It is alarming to think that not even the Minister has a solution to the problem.
The Post Office is yet another state entity that the ANC destroyed, to the detriment of the most vulnerable in our society.
