Sedibeng increases its wage bill budget with R50 million

The Sedibeng District Municipality has decided to increase its wage bill budget with R50,5 million.

At present, the total budget amounts to R420 million, of which 77,5% is spent on salaries. With the R50 million increase, an amount of R375 million is earmarked for salaries, which comprises 89,3% of the entire budget.

Sedibeng’s revenue mainly comes from government contributions with about 20% coming from licensing offices in Heidelberg, Meyerton, Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark.

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) did not support this decision. No municipality, or district municipality in this case, can operate properly when such a large chunk of its budget goes to salaries.

The party demands that Sedibeng urgently revise its financial management and priorities.

This is a typical example of how the ANC’s mismanagement runs a municipality into the ground and to the verge of bankruptcy.
