This week, the FF Plus is encouraging Tshwane residents to contribute to the city’s proposed Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and budget by using their smartphone.
Over the past week, the Tshwane Metro Council held various meetings in each of its seven regions. Those that were unable to attend these meetings, can now participate in the process by making use of electronics.
The city developed a Tshwane-E-Government app that affords residents the opportunity to make suggestions and comment on the IDP and budget using their Android or Apple smartphones.
Such input is of the utmost importance as it determines which projects are given precedence in the budget.
In terms of the Municipal Systems Act for Local Government (Act 56 of 2003), the Financial Management Act (Act 56 of 2003) and the Municipal Property Rates Act (Act 6 of 2004), the city council is required to involve the community in the process.
Residents have until the 30th of April to react to proposals put forward in the IDP document. With regard to the tax rates and by-laws, they have time until the 7th of May.
This is a golden opportunity for every Tshwane resident (Akasia, Atteridgeville, Bronkhorstspruit, Centurion, Cullinan, Ekangala, Ga-Rankuwa, Garsfontein, Hammanskraal, Irene, Kudube, Mabopane, Mamelodi, Pretoria, Pretoria North, Rayton, Refilwe, Roodeplaat, Soshanguve, Temba and Winterveldt) to participate in the public participation process.
