This morning, a Krugersdorp resident caught a Mogale City worker red-handed illegally dumping sewage from a tanker into a storm water drain along Windsor Street in Luipaardsvlei.
The resident, a local businessman, notified the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) via WhatsApp, whereafter the party visited the scene.
Local businesses later informed the Freedom Front Plus that the illegal dumping is a regular phenomenon.
The party immediately contacted the Mayoral Committee Member for Integrated Environmental Management, Xolile Mkruquli. In turn, he instructed the head of Environmental Management to investigate the incident and submit a full report to him and the Department.
The Freedom Front Plus will examine the report and if appropriate action is not taken against the culprit at once, the party will lodge a criminal complaint with the police and the Green Scorpions.
The Municipality should immediately clean the storm water drain to prevent any further environmental and health risks. Such illegal dumping of sewage in Mogale City is unacceptable.
It pollutes the natural environment, jeopardises residents’ health and reinforces the Municipality’s record of poor sewage management.
The Freedom Front Plus commends the resident for being vigilant. The party also demands stringent steps to ensure this does not happen again.
