The protest actions taking place in and around Harrismith in the Free State – under the smokescreen of service delivery protests – are equivalent to terrorism and seem to be an attempt to make the municipality and province ungovernable.
The ANC's faction fights are to blame for the extensive instability in the province.
It is a sure fact that service delivery in the Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality (Harrismith, Kestell, Phuthaditjhaba) has totally collapsed. Residents are negatively affected by the deterioration of infrastructure and lack of basic service delivery.
It is absolutely unacceptable that the groups and leaders organising these protests are inciting violence and that damage is done to private property.
According to reports, petrol bombs were thrown at the hangers of the Harrismith airport, the glider club's clubhouse was burned down, parents had to fetch their children from schools and vehicles were pelted with stones.
It is clear that the faction fights within the Free State ANC are the real reason for the protest actions in the province.
The acts of vandalism and terror are to the detriment of the Free State economy, which is already struggling.
The FF Plus demands that the government and police must step in to prevent any more damage from being done.
Burning and breaking down will not improve service delivery. In October this year, voters will have the opportunity to bring about real change by standing up and standing with the FF Plus to send a strong message to the ANC: Poor service delivery and the utter decline of municipalities will not be tolerated.
