The only solution to the water crisis plaguing Hazyview in the Mbombela Local Municipality (Mbombela/Nelspruit, Barberton, Hazyview, Kaapschehoop, Skukuza, White River) is to privatise water supply.
The standby pump at the main water treatment plant has been out of order for the past fifteen months. And in the meantime, the main pump has also broken down.
Although being fully aware of the imminent water crisis, the Municipality made no attempt to repair or replace the broken standby pump in time.
The FF Plus wants to express its gratitude to the local agricultural community for its kindness in allowing the Municipality to make use of its irrigation channel to temporarily supply water to residents.
The reputation of Hazyview, which is a popular tourist attraction, is suffering irreparable damage due to the incompetence of the ANC-controlled municipal council.
The only solution is to privatise water supply to Hazyview and take it off the Municipality's hands.
The FF Plus demands that water supply and infrastructure maintenance must be transferred to expert and competent companies so that these services can be properly regulated and managed according to sound business principles.
There is no more hiding behind excuses of broken pumps, decaying and outdated infrastructure, and a lack of financial and other resources as the Municipality has frequently been guilty of underspending its conditional allocations for infrastructure development and maintenance.
