The FF Plus fully supports the plan to improve the Tshwane Metro and on Monday, 6 November, addressed businesspeople and stakeholders.
The party briefed various role-players, such as security companies, property developers and other businesspeople, on establishing City Improvement Districts (CIDs).
The idea is to create different CIDs to assist the Metro with service delivery.
Communities can play a positive role in establishing a CID.
Such a CID can, among other things, help to ensure the safety and security of public spaces, such as roads, sidewalks and parks, as well as with cleaning and maintaining these spaces.
They can also assist with repairing potholes and sidewalks, recycling projects, and protecting plants and trees.
A CID could also gather data on crime in the area, which can then be analysed to improve security.
One example of a successful CID is the Hatfield CID that was established in 2003. Since its establishment, the Hatfield campus area is one of the cleanest, safest and most inclusive areas in the Metro.
Although the Metro mainly finances the Hatfield CID, residents can also opt to pay 25% of their property rates to finance CIDs.
The FF Plus sees this as an ongoing programme to strengthen and further develop the relationship between the Metro and local communities.
