The residents of the Matlosana Local Municipality (Klerksdorp, Stilfontein, Hartbeesfontein and Orkney) were really the ones who lost in today's mayoral election. This morning, Washington Ntozini of the ANC, which nominated two candidates due to functionalism in the party, was elected as the new mayor of Matlosana.
The FF Plus was the only opposition party that nominated a candidate.
IM Groenewald (FF Plus) – 17 votes,
W Ntozini (ANC) – 31 votes and
M Kgaile (ANC) – 26 votes.
The outcome confirms the FF Plus's warning that the ANC will reorganise itself. Two weeks ago, the opposition parties in the council had a golden opportunity to take the mayoral position from the ANC when only 25 of their councillors showed up for the council meeting.
The DA, however, left the special council meeting held on 1 November and thus the opportunity to put a to stop to the ANC in the municipality was lost.
The outcome of today's election means that Matlosana residents will once again have to bear the burden of the ANC's mismanagement and corruption.
The FF Plus will, however, keep fighting back against poor service delivery so that the interests of the entire Matlosana community are made top priority.
