The FF Plus expresses its shock with the firing of all eight SABC journalists who dared to voice their opposition to their SABC bosses’ censorship instructions.
Only intervention at the highest level will bring the power drunk SABC leaders to their senses. Because it is most unlikely that president Jacob Zuma will intervene immediately, the FF Plus asks that an emergency meeting of parliament’s portfolio committee on communication is held.
By firing these senior journalists before any hearing or legal steps have been completed, the dictatorial management style that is currently ruling the SABC is confirmed.
The lesson that the SABC leaders will be learning, is that once you have lost your news credibility in the eyes of the public once, it will be very difficult to regain it again. This is what is currently happening at the SABC.
The FF Plus today sent a letter to the chief whip of the majority party in parliament, Jackson Mthembu, in which it is urgently requested that an emergency meeting is held by the parliamentary portfolio committee responsible for the SABC and the Broadcasting Act in an attempt to rescue what is still to be rescued at the SABC.
