The decision of the National Prosecuting authority (NPA) to appeal the decision of the spy-tape judgment in which it was found that President Jacob Zuma has to stand trial on 783 counts of racketeering, corruption and fraud, testifies of political expediency in service of Pres. Zuma, Dr. Pieter Mulder, Leader of the FF Plus, said.
Dr. Mulder said the decision was predictable, especially seen in the light of the forthcoming municipal elections, and this could mean that the case could only be tried in the appeals court next year.
Dr. Mulder says this step of Adv. Shaun Abrahams of the NPA, is regrettable, especially in the light of the Pretoria High Court’s finding last month that the decision of the NPA in 2009 to withdraw charges against Pres. Zuma was “irrational”.
“The president always says that he is innocent and wishes for his day in court to prove his innocence. He once again had such an opportunity here. But, like so many times before, certain processes are being used to keep him out of court, and this takes place at the expence of taxpayers,” Dr. Mulder said.
