It is disappointing and unacceptable that the provincial government in the North West is merely shrugging its shoulders and turning a blind eye to the serious problems experienced by the Kgetlengrivier Municipality (Derby, Koster and Swartruggens).
The FF Plus is concerned about the situation as it seems that no effort is being made to solve the problems.
Some of the more recent problems were caused by the Municipality itself that allegedly did not pay the salary deductions it made for pension and medical aid contributions to the relevant service providers. As a result, officials and other employees decided to strike and it had a serious impact on service delivery.
There was another strike earlier because apparently officials were not paid the overtime due to them.
Approximately 16 000 households in all areas of the municipal district are affected seeing as there is basically no service delivery.
The local abattoir can also not continue with its activities as there is no sewage disposal.
The FF Plus has contacted the office of the Premier, Mr Job Mokgoro, as well as the province's MEC for local government affairs, Mr Mothibedi Kigakilwe, and insisted on immediate intervention.
The office of the Premier responded by saying that the provincial government was not informed of the said problems.
The FF Plus finds this unacceptable. The party has now reported the problems on provincial level and will also put pressure on the government on national level if the situation does not improve soon.
Mr Frans Potgieter, FF Plus councillor in Kgetleng, will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that action is taken in the interest of all the residents of the area.
