Merafong Municipality restores power supply to Rotora School for disabled learners after FF Plus intervenes

After continued pressure from the FF Plus, the Merafong Local Municipality (Carletonville, Fochville, Wedela) restored the power supply to the Rotora School for learners with special educational needs earlier today.

The school had been without electricity for more than a month.

The FF Plus intervened after members of the community in Carletonville approached the party about the problems experienced by the school.

The Speaker of Merafong, Elvis Mphithikezi, was asked to intervene and official letters were sent to Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng MEC for Education, to Lebogang Maile, MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) and to Jacob Mamabolo, MEC for Health, requesting immediate intervention.

The school was stranded without electricity from the 7th of September and the girls' hostel had been without power since the 24th of August due to cable theft. The situation at the school got much worse as on Sunday evening, parts of the security network had been stolen as well.

The FF Plus will not hesitate to hold the relevant authorities accountable, particularly when learners with special needs are suffering.
