The service delivery crisis currently experienced by the Matjhabeng Local Municipality (Allanridge, Hennenman, Odendaalsrus, Ventersburg, Virginia, Welkom) is the direct result of the ANC's outright refusal to accept responsibility for its own failures.
This was evident on the very first day of the NCOP's provincial week in the Free State when the struggling Municipality on Tuesday had to explain why Matjhabeng finds itself in such a serious financial and service delivery predicament.
The Municipality's Mayor, Nkosenjani Speelman, clearly has no control over his Municipality. Speelman was unable to explain what he is doing to address the outstanding debt of R3,4 billion to Sedibeng Water and how Matjhabeng is going to ensure that residents are not once again punished for the Municipality's non-payment.
Under Speelman's leadership, Matjhabeng is the worst municipality in the Free State as regards finances and service delivery. An intervention by the ANC provincial government will not save Matjhabeng, because it is the ANC's own incompetence and corruption that are causing Free State municipalities to go under.
The FF Plus will continue to hold the ANC accountable and to offer hope where municipalities fail to provide services to residents.
