Healthcare institutions in Mpumalanga face serious shortage of medical supplies

The FF Plus is deeply concerned about the fact that numerous hospitals and clinics across Mpumalanga have had to turn away many patients who suffer from HIV/Aids, TB, high blood pressure and other chronic conditions due to a lack of medicine and medical supplies.

These shortages follow the controversial takeover of Mpumalanga's medicine depot in Middelburg by the joint venture of Bongani Rainmaker Logistics and Osiris Healthcare, which allegedly did not have the necessary medical supplies in place and to whom the relevant tender was irregularly awarded.

Despite the fact that the Mpumalanga MEC for Health, Sasekani Manzini, promised that all the province's healthcare facilities would have sufficient supplies of chronic medication by the end of last month, it seems that there are still some clinics that have a shortage of medicine.

This includes a shortage of critically important medical items, such as personal protective equipment.

The FF Plus has sent urgent questions to the MEC and will demand that an investigation must be launched to determine the reasons for the shortage of medical supplies and that the relevant officials must be held accountable.

The FF Plus will continue to fight back against poor quality healthcare and demands that all essential medications and proper medical treatment must be accessible for all at all times.
