The FF Plus congratulates the Free State matric class of 2024 on their exam results.
The province’s matric pass rate of 91% should, however, be considered in the context of the Free State having one of the highest annual drop-out rates among learners in the country.
The Free State Department is too narrowly focused on its top position. The matric pass rate is not the only measure of successful education. Certain aspects, such as subject choices and early dropouts, could artificially make the numbers look better.
In addition, the national Department of Education voiced its concern about the reading and arithmetic skills of Free State learners in the past.
The ANC is failing our youth, most notably through the high levels of unemployment in the province. According to the expanded definition, up to 38 out of every 100 youths in the country are unemployed.
As a result, many talented and hard-working youths relocate to other provinces, or even other countries, seeing as there are no opportunities for them in the Free State.
