The FF Plus has urgently requested the Gauteng Police commissioner, Lt.-Gen. Elias Mawela, to assign additional police members to help process firearm licence applications before the amnesty period ends this coming Sunday.
The party also asked Lt.-Gen. Mawela to authorise overtime pay for members who work with firearm licence applications and to extend working hours.
The FF Plus has been inundated with complaints about the firearm amnesty process and it appears that the police service does not have enough staff members to handle the process effectively.
Restricted office hours and stringent Covid-19 regulations hamper the application process and, thus, many firearm owners cannot file their applications in time.
