The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) is deeply concerned about the series of female deaths in and around Kempton Park after yet another woman’s remains were recently discovered in Olifantsfontein.
Over the last two months or so, five women, presumably murdered, were found in the same area near Kempton Park. All were partially or completely undressed, and there are reportedly chilling similarities in the circumstances and manner in which they were killed.
The police have not yet confirmed that a serial killer is responsible for these deaths, but the similarities should compel the police to take swift, decisive action.
The discovery of a fifth woman’s remains makes the situation even more critical.
The Freedom Front Plus welcomes the police’s decision to assemble a multidisciplinary task team, including the Murder and Robbery Unit and the Investigative Psychology Unit. It is, however, crucial to ensure that this mobilisation leads to visible action and a swift breakthrough.
Visible policing in Rhodesfield, along the R21 and other identified risk areas must be increased at once.
CCTV footage, cellphone data, vehicle movements and all available forensic evidence should be analysed in an integrated manner. Private security companies should be called upon to form a coordinated safety network.
Women should not have to accept a permanent restriction on moving around safely, because criminal predators are roaming free. Government’s constitutional responsibility is restricting criminals’ movements – not those of law-abiding women.
The Freedom Front Plus also calls on the public not to engage in needless speculation about the matter, but to report any suspicious behaviour and information to the police immediately.
The victims and their families deserve answers. Kempton Park deserves safety and security. Not one more victim.
